The Blessing Series is another one that sprang from within, just waiting to get out. The three part series is black acrylic on paper with gold thread and was created during a time in my life when I could literally give up or hold on. I barely held on. The black represents the darkness of the situation and my feelings of serious depression. In each of the pieces the paper is torn, representing tearing your heart, tearing your insides out, etc. The gold thread was done as healing, and I literally said prayers as I sewed, mended the paper and strove to mend myself. Some of the pieces also include prayers and symbols from the Old Testament, from Judaism, and from Chinese characters with positive affirmations. As artists we hope that our work inspires, invokes emotions, or heals. Occasionally, we find ourselves on the receiving end.
